Within these areas, RESPEC provides experienced engineers, computational tools,
and experimental methods to solve complex engineering problems. Engineering
analysis addresses a variety of industrial problems, usually to improve the
performance and longevity of engineered structures and processes. By
integrating relevant engineering experience; high-performance computing; and
its employees’ backgrounds in geosciences, solid and structural mechanics, and
fluid and thermal sciences, RESPEC can apply required interdisciplinary
approaches to engineering analysis. Our experience includes over 30 years of
consulting in engineering analysis (mechanical, thermal, and hydrological),
materials testing, and field investigations.
Computational tools enhance an engineer’s ability to efficiently solve complex
problems. One tool RESPEC developed is a series of finite-element computer
programs for solving rock- and soil-mechanics problems related to mining,
resource recovery, and underground storage. These programs are collectively
called SPECTROM (Special Purpose Engineering Codes
for Thermal ROck Mechanics). In addition to the SPECTROM
programs, our engineers use public domain and commercial software including FLAC,
FLAC3D, MAP3D, MathCad, MODFLOW, PRONTO,
Pro/ENGINEER, SUTRA, TOUGH2, and TRACRN. Thus,
RESPEC has a variety of finite element, finite difference, and boundary element
programs to perform mechanical, thermal, and hydrological analyses. More
importantly, RESPEC’s engineers have the necessary education and experience to
efficiently and successfully use these tools and know their limitations.
Oftentimes, engineering analysis studies work closely with the laboratory and
field testing components of a project. The data obtained in these complementary
components are often vital parts of engineering analyses since they provide
basic information required to perform an analysis or to obtain follow-up data
validating a design. RESPEC’s laboratory and field personnel can provide this
necessary data.
